Ellen Yetvin-Haven

Statement

My painting is about rhythm.  A beat can translate into a myriad of colors, lines, and shapes.  The color is derived from nature, although subject matter is primarily emotional.  Layers and layers of paint are full of life, energy, and reflective expressions. Using brushstrokes saturated with color, I choreograph gestural elements into a symphony of luminous joy and vitality.

As I embark on this adventure, a sense of immediacy appears - open to change - open to discovery. Swirls of color and brushstrokes appear as whirlwinds of motion then bloom into one lyrical and harmonious image. From this improvisation and choreography, the painting emerges, reflecting a deep, living cavern of experience, born of struggle and knowledge of our fleeting lives.
